Position Overview: Special Education Teachers (Elementary)
​
The Special Education Teacher - Elementary at PPLA PCS plays a critical role in providing individualized support and instruction to students with diverse learning needs. This role requires a deep understanding of special education pedagogy, child development, and a commitment to inclusive practices. The teacher will collaborate closely with general education teachers, families, and administrators to create a learning environment where every student feels supported, challenged, and empowered to succeed. The ideal candidate will be familiar with using sensory strategies and techniques to support student learning and engagement. They will also be comfortable with PBL curriculum and have the ability to scaffold and differentiate instruction among multiple students with varying needs. A flexible thinker who is open to ongoing learning and collaboration is essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

Individualized Instruction and Support:
-
Adapt and modify general education curriculum and instruction to meet the unique learning needs of students with disabilities.

Provide individualized instruction in both inclusive and specialized settings, utilizing a variety of teaching strategies and assistive technologies.

Collaborate with general education teachers to co-teach and support students with disabilities in the general education classroom.
-
Differentiate instruction and provide accommodations to ensure that all students have access to the curriculum and can participate fully in classroom activities.

Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
-
Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify students' strengths and needs.

Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 plans, and Language Acquisition plans.

Monitor student progress towards IEP goals and make adjustments as needed.

Use data to inform instructional decisions and track student growth.

Collaboration and Communication:
-
Collaborate effectively with general education teachers, parents, administrators, and related service providers to ensure that students receive appropriate support and services.

Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, concerns, and upcoming events.
-
Participate in IEP meetings and other collaborative meetings to discuss student needs and develop individualized plans.

Positive Behavior Support:
-
Implement positive behavior supports and interventions to address challenging behaviors and promote social-emotional learning.

Create a safe and supportive classroom environment that fosters respect, responsibility, and positive social interactions.

Collaborate with the school counselor and other support staff to address students' social-emotional needs.

Professional Development:
-
Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance knowledge and skills in special education pedagogy, inclusion practices, and specific disability areas.

Stay current with research and best practices in special education.

Participate in school-wide professional learning communities and workshops.

Qualifications:
-
Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Valid state teaching license or certification in Special Education.

Deep understanding of special education law, policies, and procedures.

Knowledge of different types of disabilities and effective instructional strategies for diverse learners.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.

Ability to use technology effectively in the classroom.

Commitment to inclusive practices and creating a positive learning environment for all students.

Familiarity with using sensory strategies and techniques to support student learning.

Experience with PBL curriculum and the ability to scaffold and differentiate instruction for multiple students with varying needs.

Demonstrated flexibility in thinking and openness to ongoing learning and collaboration.
