Position Overview: Behavior Specialist

PPLA PCS is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Behavior Specialist to join our dedicated team of educators. In this role, you will play a vital part in fostering a positive and supportive learning environment for students with special needs by providing expertise in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and evidence-based behavioral interventions.

The Behavior Specialist will work collaboratively with classroom teachers, special education staff, administrators, and Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) to assess student needs, develop and implement effective behavior intervention plans, and monitor student progress. This position requires a deep understanding of learning theories, behavioral principles, and strategies for promoting positive behavior change.

Reports to: Special Education Coordinator/BCBA/Principal

Key Responsibilities:

Assessment and Planning:
-
Conduct functional behavior assessments (FBAs) to identify the function of challenging behaviors.

Collaborate with the IEP team to develop individualized behavior intervention plans (BIP) aligned with student needs and goals.

Develop and implement crisis intervention plans for students with significant behavioral challenges.

Intervention and Support:
-
Provide direct support to students exhibiting challenging behaviors, utilizing ABA techniques and positive behavior supports.

Train and coach teachers and paraprofessionals on implementing BIPs with fidelity.

Model effective behavior management strategies and de-escalation techniques.

Monitor student progress and collect data to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.

Collaborate with BCBAs to adjust BIPs as needed based on data and student progress.

Training and Collaboration:
-
Provide professional development to staff on topics related to behavior management, ABA principles, and supporting students with special needs.

Collaborate with parents and families to ensure consistent implementation of behavior support strategies across home and school settings.

Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of behavior goals and interventions.

Consult with teachers and administrators on addressing challenging behaviors and creating a positive school climate.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

Collect and analyze data on student behavior to monitor progress and evaluate intervention effectiveness.

Maintain accurate records of student behavior, interventions, and progress.

Prepare reports and presentations on student behavior data for IEP meetings and other stakeholders.

Qualifications:
-
Master's or Bachelor’s degree in special education, applied behavior analysis, or related field.Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification preferred. or

Working towards Applied Behavior Analysis degree or BCBA credentials
-
Experience working with students with diverse learning needs, including autism spectrum disorder, emotional and behavioral disorders, and other disabilities.

In-depth knowledge of ABA principles and evidence-based behavioral interventions.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with students, staff, and families.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Experience conducting FBAs and developing BIPs.
-
Experience providing professional development and training to educators.
-
Knowledge of various learning styles and disabilities.
-
Familiarity with assistive technology and augmentative communication devices.
