Position Overview: Paraprofessionals
The Paraprofessional at PPLA PCS is a valuable member of the educational team, providing support and assistance to teachers and students in the classroom. This role requires a strong commitment to student success, a nurturing and patient demeanor, and the ability to work effectively with diverse learners. The Paraprofessional will assist with implementing lesson plans, providing individualized support, and creating a positive and inclusive learning environment. The ideal candidate will be familiar with using sensory strategies and techniques to support student learning and engagement, and comfortable working with students with a variety of learning styles and needs.
Reports to: Classroom Teacher/Special Education Teacher/Curriculum/Education Coordinator (depending on assignment)
Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Support:
-
Assist teachers in preparing and implementing engaging lessons and activities aligned with curriculum goals.

Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce learning, provide practice opportunities, and differentiate instruction.

Help students develop essential academic skills in reading, writing, mathematics, and other subject areas.

Utilize a variety of instructional materials and resources, including technology, to support student learning.

Provide support and accommodations for students with disabilities, including those with IEPs or 504 plans.

Classroom Management:
-
Assist teachers in maintaining a well-organized and productive classroom environment.
-
Help manage student behavior and implement positive behavior supports.
-
Supervise students during activities and transitions.
-
Create a safe and supportive learning space for all students.

Student Support:
-
Provide individualized attention and support to students, including those with special needs.
-
Assist students with organizational and study skills.
-
Help students develop social-emotional skills and positive behaviors.
-
Use sensory strategies and techniques to support student engagement and focus.
-

Administrative Support:
-
Prepare classroom materials and resources.
-
Maintain student records and files.
-
Assist with grading and record-keeping.
-
Perform other clerical tasks as assigned.

Other Duties:
-
Supervise students during lunch, recess, and other non-instructional times.

Assist with school events and activities.
-
Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher or principal.

Qualifications:
-
High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree or higher preferred.
-
Meet the Highly Qualified paraprofessional requirements as defined by No Child Left Behind (NCLB).

Experience working with children in an educational setting.
-
Strong understanding of child development and learning principles.
-
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
-
Ability to work effectively with diverse students and families.
-
Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
-
Familiarity with using sensory strategies and techniques to support student learning.
Clearance Required:
-
Background check and fingerprinting clearance will be required.
